Far Less Aggressive

grouse man says:
You guys are really some of the most uneducated or uninformed on firearms laws I have seen. BATF is far less aggressive than 20 years ago and firearms laws have been weakened significantly over the past 20 years, especially regarding dealers. If you want no gun laws call your congressman. I am sure they will help you out. With Obama in there you should be thankful things aren't much worse. [More]
As in "grousing" or as in "Fudd"?

I added my two cents. Feel free to add yours.

We're the Only Ones Able to Continue Enough

Chatham cop accused of forgetting loaded gun on sidewalk while drunk and off duty [More]
Now hold on just a damn second here--I thought it was well-settled that New Jersey "Only Ones" were more trustworthy than the rest of us when it comes to bearing arms. That must be why no charges were filed and the incident wasn't publicly reported.

And thank goodness for this silver lining:
There is no indication he is not able to continue on the job.
You go, Sgt. Roy George!

It's a confidential personnel matter, you see. It goes back to that "Only Ones" thingie again, for those of you who just don't get why you'd be in the slammer right now with all kinds of scary throwbacks, and looking to deplete whatever worldly wealth you've accumulated trying to minimize the punishment.

I don't know who the caller is who turned it in is, but I hope they stomp him for unauthorized--and illegal--handling and possession of a concealed handgun to the full extent of the law.

Anybody dumb enough not to keep it deserves whatever he gets.

GRE Round Up for Mar. 12

There's some good stuff being turned out. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Howard Nemerov/Austin:
Twilight’s Kristen Stewart flirting with death? (This one is actually quite funny, and I'll let you in on the inside joke: Some of us GREs have been digging at Examiner management in our group correspondences for being so anal about localized content and focusing so heavily on celebrity fluff--so you can help us--and Howard--prove a point by making this one popular.)

Ron Bokleman/Boston:
Massachusetts Supreme Court upholds state gun-lock requirement (I've been meaning to address this myself--just haven't been able to get to it with everything else.)

Steve D. Jones/Fort Smith:
Cowboy journalism in Arkansas

Dave Workman/Seattle:
NY Times gets an education; Seattle Times wises up

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
Gun 'safety' regulation, VPC style

Go. Read. And please share the links. Make them all popular.

You're doing that, right?

Oath-Breaking in Iowa

The Iowa House of Representatives passed SF 2357 today. Congratulations, you just committed a treasonous act. You violated your constitutional oaths. [More]
Here's the bill.

Here's the history.

I have to wonder what pressure has been brought to bear by Iowa gun owners? Y'all been mobilizing and screaming and writing letters and scheduling appointments with your reps and writing letters to the editor and organizing meetings and corresponding and forwarding emails and links and...?

Or have most remained oblivious to guys like Iowa Patriots here who are trying their best with limited reach to warn, to mobilize...?

How many, if they hear of this at all, are getting it from some guy in Ohio...(that would be me)?

Hey, how about that young Hawkeyes offensive line, anyway...? Man, if it's anything like 2007, this could spell trouble...

Nice to see the word getting out. It's a foregone conclusion the "Authorized Journalists" won't do their job until a story's so big it can't be ignored, so I guess it's up to us to bypass them.

Oh, how nice. The cops will return his guns--they just have to "go through the paperwork" and he can "pick them up at a later date".

Funny. I don't seen an offer to deliver them back. I don't see an apology. I don't see anyone begging for forgiveness. And I don't see any consequences spelled out to keep this from happening again.

More here and here.

Signs of Peace

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Baba Adisa Bolanta, has said incessant crises in the country might have led the Federal Government to suspend issuance of firearms licence.Bolanta, who briefed newsmen in Ibadan, on the success of his command, did not disclose the nature of the crises, but he expressed hope that the suspension may be lifted as soon as there are sufficient signs of peace in the country. Proof of Weapons Movement Between US and Mexico?

Perhaps we've been focusing on the wrong people:
The Zapata County sheriff Thursday was questioning why a Mexican military helicopter was hovering over homes on the Texas side of the Rio Grande. [More]
Are there standard armaments on Mexican military helicopters, either mounted or carried aboard?

So why aren't we demanding that they surrender so we can make sure they weren't illegally armed--particularly with automatic weapons-- a federal felony in the US unless they've registered their weapons and paid the tax...?

A US citizen would be facing serious prison time--and fleeing across the border to escape would result in extradition back to face charges.

And so what if our "military was informed"? Does our government maintain that invading Mexican government employees deserve preferential treatment over US citizens?

We're the Only Ones Using Reason, Not Emotion Enough

"In this case, a 'person of ordinary intelligence' would know that the defendant's conduct was prohibited by statute when he willfully chose to speed at 126 mph on a well-traveled, interstate highway while talking on his cell phone as well as receiving and sending e-mails in the moments prior to losing control of his vehicle," the motion stated. [More]
Doesn't matter. Because:
"We empower them to do things others are not allowed to do," O'Gara said, pointing out that police officers are allowed to wear a gun on their hip while driving a car -- a felony for anyone else.
What part of "Only Ones" don't you inferiors understand?

That's evidently why the government watchdog "Authorized Journalists" removed comments.

Why Do ATF Employees Question Fitness of Agent in 'Toy Gun' Seizure?

In fairness to Mr. Crenshaw, this assessment is clearly coming from someone with an agenda. His side of things has not been presented. What hasn't been established is whether that agenda is just, whether that assessment is fair, or whether an accomplished professional is being unfairly maligned by disgruntled colleagues. [More]

This Day in History: March 12

There are complaints from every quarter of the remissness of Payment in the Commissary and Quarter Master departments, whether this is owing to the misapplication of Public Money or whether the departments have not been properly supported by the Treasury I will not undertake to determine as none of their accounts either go thro’ my hands or are subject to my inspection. A change is taking place in the Qr. Masters and I hope if the Gentleman who is in nomination accepts that there will be a considerable reform. [More]
