Senate approves Breuer supporter as head of OIG at Justice

With all the apparent issues and concerns at stake, and with the Department of Justice stonewalling Congressional oversight every step of the way, why is it appropriate to approve the administration’s strategically-picked nominee--the guy Obama and Holder want be in charge of future “Gunwalker” investigation efforts--without creating a record of “the names or numbers of senators voting on each side”? [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a successful strike that apparently went under the radar. Ask yourself why you're probably not hearing about this from any place that has reach.

Why is White House blocking ‘Gunwalker’ testimony from former NSC director?

And we're supposed to believe the Special Agent in Charge at the heart of Fast and Furious "gunwalking" and the official who advises the president on matters of national security are just old pals shooting the breeze about border gunrunning--in emails that Newell took special pains to protect himself on? Today's Gun Rights Examiner report connects some dots and makes the case that Eric Holder is taking his stonewalling lead directly from the top.

Love Story

While I couldn't agree more that guns are simply tools, pretty much like any others, I don't know why that would make them unlovable. Most men love their tools, all different kinds, and men have always loved their guns. I'm certainly not ashamed to join those men. [More]
I confess I don't understand the passion and never have.  Long time readers know that.  I like 'em ok, and enjoy shooting to a degree, but I'll never be a true enthusiast--I've always considered practice more of a responsibility than a recreational activity.  I understand a lot of you are aficionados, but for me it's always been about the freedom, the principles, the utility and the choice.

As far as material possessions go, if my house were on fire, my first inclination would be to save the family pictures and videos.

Hutaree case illustrates Justice Department double standard

The line between freedom of political expression and sedition and conspiracy must always be adjudicated with an eye toward protecting rights, and if speech—no matter if disturbing, offensive or hateful does not cross it—the government must not be allowed to punish those engaging in it. Still, the parallels between this case and recent statements by the New Black Panthers about Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman should be noted: Is offering a reward to their followers to find and kidnap a man who has not been criminally charged protected free speech, or a violation of Title 18, U.S.C., Section 241, “Conspiracy against Rights”? 31 Days...

...to Survival [More]

I haven't read it so I can't offer a knowledgeable testimonial, but I do occasionally link to the author's blog where you can check him out for yourself.

A Good Rule of Thumb

I got an email tip saying "Look What Our Border Patrol Found Two Weeks Ago in Arizona - Frightening." It was included with several other photos besides the one here, as well as a link to a blog posting it.

That blog does not link to a source, but merely reproduces an obvious chain email (replete with red, black and blue lettering of various fonts and sizes with strategic underlining for emphasis),  so there's no way to determine when or where these photos were taken, and whether or not the accompanying text is relevant and accurate--but the near-hysterical layout/presentation should give us a clue.

A 2010 Reuters photo credit I found during a quick keyword search places this incident at Higueras near Monterrey, 100 miles or so from the Texas border and nowhere near Arizona.  And further looking around yielded this related video.

That doesn't mean finding caches of weapons in Mexico is not an issue. It is, and the capture of military ordnance, including grenade launchers and the like, demonstrates that paramilitary cartel operations aren't getting such things from U.S. gun stores.

But what it does mean is that someone took something with a core of truth, and then went in and made changes to some basic facts for a reason of their own in the hopes that others would pick up their altered version and run with it.

I suspect people get this stuff circulating in emails so activists and bloggers will pick up on it and give it further weight--which makes the ones who fall for it easy targets for discrediting--get one to swallow and promote a chain email and everything else they write about can be ridiculed.

What we know for sure is someone at the beginning of this thread changed things with intent to spread disinformation. The question is, who are they?

In the mean time, please heed this. Otherwise, stuff like this happens.

A good rule of thumb: If it doesn't link to a credible source, try to verify it before passing it on.

Rush to judgment on George Zimmerman reminiscent of mob behavior

“If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” President Barack Obama felt compelled to toss into the spreading flames of divisiveness.

Curiously, as Obama’s political base in "stand your ground"-free Chicago prepares for a Trayvon Martin march today, the names of last weekend’s 10 dead/49 wounded seem destined for obscurity. Evidently these lacked an important exploitable factor. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes that ginning up the mob has certain advantages those who crave control can rely on.

No Slur

I've been occupied with other priorities and haven't had time to weigh in on this case, but do note the antis are dancing in the blood with all their might in order to kill "stand your ground" and to keep it from spreading.

Here's the thing--Workman asks a good question: "Was ‘SYG’ law even relevant?"

I've been marginally watching this from the sidelines and here's a sneaking suspicion I can't shake: I’ve read officials aren’t prosecuting him saying they can't because of stand your ground laws that need to be changed. I’m wondering if that’s a cynical strategy on the part of prosecutors who are hostile to anything making their burden of proof more difficult to overcome—it seems they very well could charge and prosecute the guy—who followed and confronted the teenager after being specifically told not to by the 911 dispatcher. I’m suspecting the decision to not prosecute is a calculated legal and political exploitation of the situation.

We're the Only Ones All Tapped Out Enough

The Ultimate Outcome

These people cannot be reasoned with. They feel, they want – and they hate. This Day in History: March 22

On March 22, Brig. Gen. Alexander Leslie was leading a British force toward Dayton Hall and Middleton Place. At the bridge crossing at St. Andrew's Creek, they were fired upon by some Patriot artillery. At 7:00 pm, Capt. Ewald took a small detachment and crossed the creek. When they arrived at the Patriot position, they found that the Patriots had abandoned it. They spotted the retreating Patriots and attacked them. A small skirmish ensued, with both sides withdrawing after a few casualties on the British side. [More]

Unfortunately, No I Do Not

Unfortunately, the author repeats a commonly quoted falsehood that does as much harm as good, IMHO: “The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms.”[More]
No I do not. Read the damn thing. I specifically take the administration to the woodshed for that. Good grief, I even cite SCOTUS to prove they know they're lying.

A lot of work and thought go into these things. What does more harm than good: forum bloviators who express opinions based on either skimming them, reading headlines, or reacting to the comments of others.

That no one has called him on it yet reinforces my point.

Vanderboegh Medical Update

Just got off the phone with Mike--he is undergoing a very painful procedure to...uh...move things along.

They may actually be releasing him on Friday, but I'll believe it when I see it.  When I talk to him he sounds like he's been through what he's been through.

I see from Sipsey Street some feel inclined to comment.  I wish you wouldn't, and would instead consider the effort it requires of him to respond, and the fighter's personality that compels him to.  I wish you'd do this instead--if you want to be helpful, send him your best wishes in a card.  From my post-op report:

Support can still be sent via the donation button at Sipsey Street Irregulars, and to   P.O. Box 926, Pinson, AL 35126...Cards can be sent to him via Trinity Medical Center, 800 Montclair Road, Birmingham, AL 35213.

Physician, Heal Thyself

I'm getting emails asking if I've heard anything about new gun questions being asked by doctors as a result of Obamacare, as a new Medicare tactic for elderly suicides, and by the VA to determine if veterans are a danger to themselves and others.

I haven't had time to track any of these rumors down, so if anyone has heard anything definitive and can provide validating links or copies of new forms, please let me know.

In the mean time, if any doctor does engage in a boundary violation, ask him to fill out the embedded form for your medical record.

A Taxing Problem

A spokesman for the AG explains that the siblings "weren't aware of the initial missed payments, which happened in the last months of their mother's life when she was battling illness." [More]
This story is actually almost a year old, but I just ran across it and think it illustrates something about this character who is so quick to run our lives while neglecting the ones he should be paying attention to. Every time this f***er gets caught, he doesn't know a damn thing.

My parents are elderly. My Dad is incapacitated. My Mom is overwhelmed.  We kids take it on ourselves to involve ourselves in their bills and finances--as well as everything else--to make sure they're taken care of. There are no surprises. Just this morning I was on the phone with a wheelchair provider. Last week I was coordinating some documentation for their 401K. My brother is doing their taxes.  My sister flies in from AZ every several weeks.  My other sister...you get the picture.

How the hell do you have your mother battling an illness in the last months of her life and remain deliberately indifferent to the fact that the basics aren't even being watched?  Particularly if you have the wealth and resources the Brainwasher General enjoys?

Damn leftists--they're all crocodile tears for the--what do they call them now?--"underserved,"as long as it's your money they can do it with and someone else they can order to carry things out.

Vanderboegh Medical Update

Just got off the phone with Mike.  Yesterday was a rough day.  He has done some limited posting over at Sipsey Street, released some comments and answered some emails.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I repeat: Hold off on that stuff.  Those of us who know Mike know he'll crawl over broken glass to do what he has to, and we shouldn't be requiring it of him.

Vanderboegh Medical Update

He had a rough night last night and is exhausted.  Evidently he got up in the middle of the night completely out of it and was taking tubes out of himself and wandering the hall.  The good news is they did some sort of test on him and he's not leaking.

It's a tough balance--he wants back into things and that acts as a great motivator, but there is only so much he can do--a spirit is willing but flesh is weak kind of dilemma.

I repeat: Hold up on emails and Sipsey Street comments. The guy already has more than enough to exhaust himself with.

Mask coming off coordinated administration deception on guns

Well, we opened up some bottles for a wee nip and did a bit o' celebratin', and me with all kinds o' guns includin' assault weapons available--the kind that some would call weapons o' war with no legitimate purpose but to kill as many people as possible while spray firing from the hip mowing down innocents with that shoulder thing that goes up...and guess what happened?

We all had a lovely time, and enjoyed each others' conversation and companionship.

No it won't. Notice he doesn't cite all those off-campus incidents where his fears have come true. "Gun free zones" are what attract monsters.  Note his fellow brainwashees, the "Authorized Journalists" refer to him as an "anti-violence advocate," even though his "solution" guarantees continuation of exact opposite results.

Public Stigma

That's what they want. [More]

The Attorney Brainwasher says he wants gun owners "cowering" like cigarette smokers.

Not me:
I am a gun owner and I live a gun owner lifestyle.

I don't know if I was born with a tendency to be this way, or if it was an acquired disposition. All I know is, I don't see why I should be forced to change. Truth be known, I like owning guns, and am happy with who I am. I hope I suffer no repercussions by "coming out of the safe," but I just can't hide the truth any longer.

We gun owners have been living and working among you. Our kids go to school with yours. We may be your doctor, or minister, or your child's teacher. We may even work in city administration, or the courts, or on the police force. And we are sick of being abused for simply being who we are, all because of hoplophobic prejudice and fear. We don't see any reason why we should have to put up with it any more.

ATF agents put careers on line to report management abuses

Tellingly, and in spite of the personal risks, with documented examples of retaliation endured, they pledge [with emphasis in the original]:
The authors of this action will testify before Congress or meet with the Director without the benefit of counsel and will not invoke their right to the attorney client privilege if the agency heads will do the same. The truth remains the truth negates the need to hide behind legal representation.
Also tellingly: They demonstrate their motives are not partisan...[More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner exclusive report reveals an unmet challenge, gives another reason why Republicans aren't treating things more critically and urgently, and shows how self-serving those trying to derail things are. This really is important information that the "Authorized Journalists" will completely ignore. If it's going to become more widely known, that's up to the willingness of each of us to help disseminate the link.

Vanderboegh Medical Update

I spoke with Mike again this morning when he called me from the Intensive Care Unit at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham.

He took four steps yesterday and will be walking again today.  In a milestone for gastrointestinal surgery recovery, he did want me to share that he has managed to...uh...expel methane twice now, and he dedicated the first occurrence to Eric Holder and the second to Little Jimmy Vann.

And he read a newspaper for the first time after surgery. He hurt himself laughing when he found out Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ordered U.S. Marines in Afghanistan to disarm for his visit, and wonders if perhaps he's feeling a bit guilty about that Constitutional oath he took...

Now for my reminder: Hold up on the emails and trying to post comments over at Sipsey Street. Have mercy on the guy, because you know he'll try to address every one, and we need to help him rest and recover.  Our inputs can wait.

If you want to communicate with him:

And it looks like we have someone interested in Mike's health reports:
