For Those Inclined to Offer Prayers

This fine gentleman, only the second man in my life I've asked for an autograph from, could use them. [Read]

UPDATE:  Workman left this comment two hours ago in response to a question about "foul play":
[T]he man is in his late 70s. Elderly people sometimes fall down. He appears to be doing okay at last report.

I raise this point because others have also asked via email and we need to keep it real.  The guy with the inside line to updates will be Dave, so keep an eye on his column.  I'll report changes/developments here, but he'll have them first and all I'll be doing is linking to him.

UPDATE: Kurt Hofmann tells me the Illinois Carry forum has "encouraging news...He's supposedly conscious, speaking clearly, in a regular room (rather than intensive care), and will not need surgery."

UPDATE: Again from Kurt:

Colleen Lawson's husband David was one of the  co-plaintiff's in McDonald v. Chicago (or maybe they both were).  They've both been long active in the Illinois gun rights scene.  This is on her Facebook page:

He was standing at home and felt dizzy and did not fall, just let himself crumple to the floor. After ten minutes, he felt well enough to rise and out himself to bed, tho it was mid-afternoon. His kids found him like that and rushed him to the hospital, where it was determined that he had blood on his brain and
put him in ICU. Subsequent tests determined that surgery is not indicated at this point, and that it discontinuing his blood pressure meds may be efficacious in relieving that pressure. The docs felt he had been on them too long and didn't need them, and he reports a marked increase in feeling better this morning, following discontinuance of the blood pressure meds. As of last night, he was moved out of ICU and into a regular room. Although visits are discouraged without prior consent of the family, Otis welcomes your cards and has given permission for this status update to be shared with any interested persons.

Cards and well wishes may be sent to:

Christ Community Hospital, 4440 W 95th St

Oak Lawn, IL 60453.

Otis McDonald sends his love and gratitude for your inquiries, prayers, and well-wishes.

Fast and Furious whistleblower Dodson demands retraction from Fortune

Gun Rights Examiner had warned Congressional investigators to watch for retaliatory smears early on in its Fast and Furious coverage, and relayed a report in July of last year that Privacy Act-protected documents had been leaked by the Justice Department in an attempt to discredit Dodson. Noting how the administration’s water carriers in the media were quick to embrace the Eban report with the intent to do just that to the Congressional gunwalking investigation...[More]

En Route

Vanderboegh just called me from Charlotte, a leg on his flight to Orlando for the Gun Rights Policy Conference.  That made me think what he really needs is one of those Indiana Jones flight-in-progress maps.

I regret I can't make it this time. If you're there, or know anyone who is, make sure to say "Hi" to him.

Samuel L. Jackson, Shut the F-' up

Some of us are sick of rich, foul-mouthed Hollywood stars with attitudes posing as champions of the underdogs. [Watch]

How telling to use a white family in this--I guess the racist doesn't need to worry about blacks.

And real classy, using a little girl like that, especially with her final line, but it does tell me everything I need to know about parents who would allow it and the fascist media pigs exploiting her.

I wonder if Obama would approve of  Sasha or Malia talking like that in a campaign commercial?  Or admit that he would if it would work to his advantage?

UPDATE: I just had a thought and don't know about campaign finance and FEC regs to do more than ask--but I imagine Jackson can command millions for a performance and am wondering what the value reported/declared by the JCER is and if it matters?  I also wonder what all the "campaign finance reform" noise McCain was making a few years back was all about--except to disenfranchise those of us who don't have great personal wealth and influence.

Ames home gun sale ban reflects intolerance, not safety

That’s not good enough for some neighbors, who insist “This is not a Second Amendment issue” but nonetheless want to infringe on Seaton’s rights and affairs, citing a wholly speculative potential decline in property values to make their case. That’s an interesting position for them to publicly take when talking about housing, discrimination and civil rights.  [More]

Gun Policy

Make sure that you focus on keeping your employees safe rather than pushing a personal agenda. [More]
Well then, we need to take into account that signs never seem to stop those with murder on their minds, and also recognize the documented admission that:
In 2004, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences released its evaluation from a review of 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications, and some original empirical research. It failed to identify any gun control that had reduced violent crime, suicide, or gun accidents. The same conclusion was reached in 2003 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s review of then extant studies.
I suppose to be legally "safe" (as if there is such a thing), a business could adopt a policy for employees and visitors similar to the one Starbucks offered its customers when caught between open carry advocates and gungrabbers--that they would abide by applicable state laws.

I prefer something a little more direct and less tepid:

If you threaten to or commit acts of physical aggression on these premises, the rest of us will employ an armed response to stop you.

If Justice is right, Obama campaign ID requirement disenfranchises minorities

If the 20% claim is valid, the Obama campaign is “effectively” disenfranchising minorities from being able to see the candidate in person for themselves, relegating them to being dependent on a media suffering from unprecedented public mistrust in order to make a political decision the president himself characterized as “a choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.” [More

A friend just sent me a screenshot of fed agencies lurking on his site, with links-aplenty to WarOnGuns.

State and Justice are pretty much daily visitors around here, as well as others like DHS making their presence known.  I sometimes wonder if their not trying to hide it is intended as a message, since I've called them on it again and again, and no, I don't think it might be a secret friendly, as I would hope they'd be smart enough to hide their tracks.

A Tragic Example

I believe it would be inappropriate for me to put one of my standard titles on something horrible like this, but it still merits being pointed out as yet one more example where police are NOT the "Only Ones" with superior training, skills and judgment. Wide Receiver ‘Good Samaritan’ clarifies role in OIG ‘gunwalking’ report

Today's Grammar Lesson

Remember diagramming sentences?

I do, vaguely.  I'm fortunate that, as a good monkey with highly-developed imitative skills, I've always read a lot and been able to absorb what feels right as opposed to actually understanding why it is--when younger, it allowed me to place highly on my college aptitude tests, bypassing freshman English and going right into composition classes.

Had I not, I'm sure my eyes-glaze-over ADD (something that hadn't been invented yet back then, but boy, do I have it bad when something bores me) would have derailed me on the basics--I actually wonder how I'd do if I had to take one of my old fourth grade grammar tests today, and don't do so with confidence.  I think that's one reason why I have trouble with foreign languages--they start you out with equivalent principles, and when you start talking infinitives and past participles and predicative adjuncts, hell, I was staring out the window when they talked about that stuff in English--I'll be damned if I'd know what to do with the frickin' things in French.

Anyway, W3, who is smarter than me, or at least more disciplined and mature, calls our attention to a diagram of the Second Amendment that he found while "running rabbit trails looking for other information."

Don't ask me if it's right.

It does remind me of another deconstruction, a rather brilliant one, I thought....

OIG Fast and Furious report requires analysis before media jumps to conclusions

At this point, more questions can be raised than answered, particularly as the report totaling over 500 pages with attachments must be read, digested, and understood before meaningful analysis can take place. That has not stopped the search term “clears Holder” from already becoming the meme du jour on the “Authorized Journalist” Google News feed... [More]
This afternoon's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a lot of people who don't know what the hell they're talking about are tripping all over each other pronouncing conclusions.

DOJ and Media Matters coordinated Fast and Furious reports

“Nice to know the Gunwalker criminals are paying attention,” Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars observed in his response to the story, which included emails where Media Matters’ Matt Gertz told DOJ spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler that Vanderboegh was “three inches away from being an insurrectionist.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes some media matters that Media Matters would rather not have attention called to them. It also includes links to responses from Mike, from Dave Workman and from Kurt Hofmann.

A Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of the Holder Justice Department

Well, well, well...look who's been giving them their talking points:

The emails sure fixate a lot on Mike. I like the way Gertz says he's "three inches away from being an insurrectionist."  Just how long is one, anyway, Matt?

Mike responds. As usual, I'm jealous.  What the hell do I have to do to be condemned as disreputable by these characters, put a national socialist in uniform?

I'm also kicking myself. Here's an email I sent to Mike and some of our advisers in April:
I also note Holder spokesflack Tracy Schmaler is the one who dismissed our Bar complaint as "specious" and frivolous."

I don't think you DO get it.

If you can't see something it can't hurt you?  Isn't that equivalent to a child pulling his covers over his head to keep the boogeyman from getting him?

What you're really saying is, you judge everything by your provincial outlook.  When I went to the Georgia Carry Annual Meeting, hundreds were open carrying--in a real nice hotel in the metropolitan Atlanta area--and nobody freaked out because the practice has been socially normed there--as it has been in many places.

That won't ever happen in "gun friendly" Evansville if the very people pretending to support the right to keep and BEAR arms publicly scorn regional pioneers of the practice as "fools."
