Bloomberg Wants You Dead

We talked about the cult leader's approving Rolling Stone interview here, focusing on his insufferable elitist snobbery.

Kevin Starrett thinks it's important to highlight another bit of hypocrisy from page 2 of the interview (the whole thing is ludicrous, but this point is especially telling):
No, I mean, guns are dangerous. The statistics are overwhelming. You're something like 22 times more likely to get killed in your home if you have a gun than if you don't. [Gestures at a staffer.] Let's say Amanda's trying to break in. "Excuse me, Amanda, I've gotta go get my gun to shoot you. Now, where did I put that combination to that lock? And the bullets were where? I don't know what the fuck…how do you turn the safety off?" Are you kidding me? The last thing you want to do when somebody breaks in and puts a gun toward you is try to go for a gun. That's really stupid. I don't know if you're going to get shot one way, but I guarantee you're going to get killed the other way.
But on the Everytown site:
When parents store their guns safely, they dramatically lower the chance of accidental shootings and suicides in their homes. But more than two million American children live in homes with unsecured guns.
We can't overlook those who survive because of that. Or those who die in homes with "secured" guns.

As was observed in Bloomberg's candidate survey, demanding to make that mandatory is one of the criteria he's going to be judging politicians on:
Do you support a law that would allow a prosecutor to bring charges if a gun owner stores a firearm negligently, a minor accesses the gun, and harm results?
In other words, lock up your safety or be destroyed, or lock up your safety AND be destroyed.

Heads he wins, tails you lose.

Event photo proves police aware of potentially lethal gun ‘buyback’ dangers

It shows a police officer at the event clearing a semiautomatic handgun to ensure there is no round in the chamber that can be negligently discharged, meaning authorities did not just blindly trust that those turning in guns knew what they were doing, and acknowledged the activity was potentially lethal. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner notes shameless life-threatening and cynical exploitation being done in the name of "gun safety," but really just for cheap political points and easy headlines.  And the thing is, this proves they know it.  Hey, what is it we observe about "progressives" and Opposite Day around here?

The Mr. Creosote Strategy

Wait a second--you mean that despite (supposedly) not having the resources to investigate "improper" gun sales already happening, the BATFE deliberately pushed more so-called "assault weapons," to people they knew were violent criminals? [More]
Well...uh...yes.

Here's how that works.

Armed American Radio Redux

HA! Looks like I win the fierce power struggle on how to spell the Chairman of the Board Operators' name!

I also received a reminder from a friend that Ben Carson is problematic on immigration, kind of implying I should have mentioned that when I brought his name up. I know, same holds true on guns. The fast-moving conversation was centered on Holder playing the race card as the reason why some people are against him and Obama, and the only point I was trying to make is that white people who oppose Barry are more than willing to support a  person of a different race if he represents their ideology. I also mentioned Allen West and Thomas Sowell, and didn't see a need to say anything more about them than their names. Sometimes, when you sense the host is soliciting a conversation to amplify a point, a perceptive guest will follow the lead to help him, rather than throw in detours and sidetracks until you end up having a different discussion than the one being offered.

I've talked about Carson on this blog, including highlighting Kurt's work. I'm sure I'll do so again, including on Armed American Radio.

But the man in the video may have been a Fairfax County sheriff’s deputy, Northington said he soon learned. And within days, two things happened: The deputy retired from the sheriff’s office and Target fired Northington, 29, a married father of two with a third child on the way. [More]
It's not like Target actually means to provide...you know...security. If only he'd just gone along with the facade instead of embarrassing everyone.

We're the Only Ones Searching Enough

Officers in Durham have apparently discovered that they can create the legal pretext for a search by lying about calls to 9-1-1 emergency services that never actually took place. The tactic is apparently legal — and commonplace — according to an officer’s sworn statements. [More]
So if you know they're liars, and have such flagrant disregard for rights they swore to uphold, why would you believe them when they swear to anything else?

This brings to mind one of the ways gun snitch lines invite official abuse:
Or what if I'm one of those policemen Commissioner Kelly doesn't trust? What if I have no probable cause for a search warrant, but I don't want to let the Fourth Amendment get in my way any more than the Second does in NYC? Why not just call in the tip myself, and enjoy a toll-free bypass around the Constitution?

A Reversal of Reality

“That’s exactly the reverse of reality,” Blumenauer said. “Our continued reliance on single-occupant vehicles in too much of America and on gallons of fuel consumed to pay for it places rural and small town Americans at a significant disadvantage, because today too many of them have no alternatives to driving. [More]
Figures this blather would come from a doctrinaire Prozi via the Center for American Progress, where every day is Opposite Day.

Just so we're clear: An Oregon Bolshevik wants more (and eventually all) disarmed subjects economically forced out of their cars and riding on public transportation.  Where the  only ones who can be armed are...you guessed it. And fortunately, they know when not to shoot, like when they lock themselves away from harm and watch a passenger get stabbed (and then claim credit for a collar made by the victim). Which is not to say they can't spring into action when circumstances warrant.  Right, Oscar?

Earl Blumenauer: There's a man of the people for ya!

Talk about a reversal of reality.

Nice SPLC-style conflation job there, AG Holder! And of course you realize "the experience that we had in Boston" involved foreign enemies imported into this country by calculated "immigration" laws.

Funny thing: Eric must not have had any trouble at all sleeping after Monty Wilkinson told him Brian Terry had been killed -- the night of the murder. Why, months later, he was swearing under oath he'd never heard of Fast and Furious until he saw something about it on the news.Apparently the news didn't upset him enough to want to find out more about a call he got in the middle of the night precipitated by Dennis Burke,  the DOJ functionary at the heart of "managing" Gunwalker damage control.

By all accounts, he slept like a baby.

If you believe those accounts.

Point, Counterpoint

He's doing this for headlines to help mask his dismal record on everything else -- not that he need worry, as his constituency would most likely reelect this guy if he was caught naked and biting the heads off hamsters.

Some of the comments from "our side" show not everyone is thinking things they advocate through. If you think preemption can, at times, provide superior alternatives than a patchwork quilt, say so -- but remember to acknowledge that door can swing both ways. And as for "access to minors," we talked about that, as well as other ways things are being deceptively couched in order to trick even gun rights advocates into considering them "reasonable."
