The Longest Day

Who wants to save Europe again?

Curious -- nothing here. Or here. Or here (except for inserting himself -- and again).

I guess it's not as important as apologizing for Hiroshima or congratulating the Denver Broncos. Or Ramadan.

NYT’s ‘Gun Control That Works’ Just another Disarmament Zealot Wish List Attack on RKBA

And as for it being “constitutional,” the reason the feds went after a transfer tax instead of a ban is they knew they didn’t have authority to try for the latter. And as for that registration and tax, the district court in the Miller short-barreled shotgun case agreed that it was a violation of the Second Amendment. It was only after the government appealed to the Supreme Court and no attorney showed up to argue the case, and only the government’s side was heard, that the opinion cited in subsequent cases was issued.  And even that had to concede a weapon was protected if it had “some reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia [or] that this weapon is any part of the ordinary military equipment, or that its use could contribute to the common defense.” [More]
If only we treat all guns the way we do machine guns, why we'd all be drinkin' that free Bubble Up and eatin' that rainbow stew.

First Dresden and Now This

Several people have been taken to hospital after a street in a Glasgow suburb descended into a "war zone".  [More]
That seems like a bit of hyperbole for some stabbings and van fires. I can't help but reflect on Inigo's observation.

But don't worry.  They'll get their chance.

It Depends on What the Meaning of the Term 'Infringement' Is

The letter does note that no action on the part of the CLEO is required, does not specify in what manner a CLEO should store the documentation, if they choose to do so, and asks that if the CLEO has any information that may disqualify any maker or transferee, including a responsible person of a legal entity, from making or possessing a firearm to provide that information to the NFA Branch. Of concern is that the letter does not specify the copies of the Form 1s and Form 4s that the CLEOs are receiving contain confidential tax information and should be treated as such. [More]
I guess "shall not be" wasn't clear enough.

Judgment Day

No Judge should consider people who defend themselves Guilty Unless Proven Innocent [More]
Coincidentally, the reason this blog was down since Thursday night is I flew down to Florida on Friday morning to drive my mother back up to Ohio for the summer.

UPDATE -- Important info from Ed in comments when writing Gov. Scott:
"Under Florida law, all correspondence sent to the Governor’s Office, which is not exempt or confidential pursuant to Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes, is a public record. All public record electronic mail sent to Governor Scott will be posted to Project Sunburst at http://www.flgov.com/sunburst, and will be accessible to the public. If you do not want the public record contents of your e-mail or your e-mail address to be published on this website or to be provided to the public in response to a public records request, please do not send electronic mail to this entity. Please be aware that personal information sent in your correspondence, such as home addresses and telephone numbers, may be posted to the Sunburst public records website."
Here's a way to bypass that:
Don't use "social media" for trivial pursuits. Use it because the other side has weaponized it and it makes no sense from a  C3I perspective to cede that ideological battle space to give them the advantage.

This One's a Keeper!

Kathleen Taylor, a neurologist at Oxford University, said that recent developments suggest that we will soon be able to treat religious fundamentalism and other forms of ideological beliefs potentially harmful to society as a form of mental illness. [More]
I told you she was a Keeper:
Wrong thinking is punishable; right thinking will be as quickly rewarded. You will find it an effective combination.

The Comfort Zone

“They have a button, if they’re uncomfortable they can press the button to show ‘hey someone has boarded with a gun’.” [More]
"Officials" in charge can take steps to ensure training with the law is administered and documented, or they can wait until someone gets killed and get sued.

Kind of like Mike DeSwine has done in Ohio.

Otisburg?

U.S. Congressman Rob Bishop recently sent out a press release about 14 pages he uncovered from a Department of Interior (DOI) internal memo which details the Obama Administration's plot to bypass Congress, and make it easier to confiscate and federalize land into the jurisdiction of the BLM. [More]

We're the Only Ones Excessive Enough

By golly, I guess they are better trained than the general populace! [More]

Hey, if you don't insist on being treated like a human being with rights, you've probably got nothing to worry about.

Now Imagine This Increased by an Order of Magnitude, and in Everytown

The fruits of "progressivism": A portion of the populace has been conditioned to consider themselves entitled to the property of others. When they don't get it, they get even more destructive, and the rights of/impact on others be damned. [More]

And what's with referring to this worthless waste of oxygen as a "lady"? Any bets on whether this ignorant sociopath has made positive contributions to the advancement of humanity or instead has been a lifelong drain in an ongoing series of lifelong drains?

Is everybody reasonably prepared for the day when others feel entitled to what is yours? Like the parasitical manipulators who feel entitled to your rights, and rely on creatures such as this for the political enforcement power to take them?

Looks Like Katie Couric May Get Another Colonoscopy

The NSSF calls upon the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to open a criminal investigation into this important matter. [More]
I didn't have that bit of information back when I analyzed a portion of the Soechtig interview that found all kinds of other wrong-headed assertions.

It's ironic -- on the "good for the goose" hand, its fun to watch hypocrites and ignoramuses hoist on their own petard. On the "shall not be infringed" hand, the demand should be to repeal existing gun laws, not enforce them. Because anything they can use against your enemy, they can use against you.

No worries though -- anyone want to bet these people won't be given a David Gregory-style pass? Assuming they weren't just lying about the purchases in the first place to score propaganda points...

An Ethical Dilemma

The Justice Department is resisting a judge’s order to provide ethics training for its lawyers and is objecting to turning over to the court the names of illegal aliens who were granted what amounts to administrative amnesty (“deferrals”) in stark violation of an injunction issued by the court. So is he gonna do anything about it, or just stand there and bleed?

When a Plan Comes Together

Criminal immigrants reoffend at higher rates than ICE has suggested [More]
"Suggested"? You mean "lied."

What's that, Hillary? Amnesty within the first hundred days?

Tell us what the plan is, Jeh:
[T]he approximately 11 million people who are in the country illegally have “earned the right to be citizens.”
And we know how they'll vote.

You can thank Grover and all his "republican" NRA/apologists later.  Lord knows no one but a few of us seem the least bit interested in doing it now.  Then again, why would anyone think overwhelming legislative anti-gun/Democrat majorities with the power to confirm federal judges would have any bearing on that "single issue"?

Exclusive: A Mess Of Pottage

Users there, and wherever else states have made it “legal,” like in Colorado, may not know and may not care, but they’re disqualifying themselves from owning a gun, even if their use is compliant with state laws. That’s because the federal government prohibits anyone who is a marijuana/controlled substance user from buying a gun and ammunition, and per ATF, it doesn’t even matter if the purchaser has a medical marijuana card.
