A Numbers Game

For the fourth time in less than two years, the New York Times has run an editorial repeating blatantly false numbers to convince readers that concealed-handgun permit holders are dangerous... [More]

At what point does it cross the line from "news reporting" into libel and slander against the entire population of CCW permit holders?

The New York Times & Taco Stand Editorial Board writes these articles every few months, and every time they receive letters and comments informing them of VPC's bad numbers, illegitimate sampling, and inaccurate reporting, and advising them to check the numbers and facts before writing another article. Yet, in another six-to-eight months, we will probably see another one posted, once again using VPC's crappy numbers.

When does it go from a simple mistake and misreporting, to knowingly printing false information to attack the reputations of 12 million Americans?

I'd say that line was crossed a long time ago, but that's just me.

I don’t do social media at all and never have, but I m given to understand that the Biggest Offenders in the business have instituted some way for consumers to flag postings as “fake news.” I read that it was recently used to good effect to penalize CNN, to their dismay. Sounds like it’s time to organize pro-rights types to give the NYT the same treatment, if possible.

A lie big enough told often enough becomes the truth.
